Should I wash or dry clean my curtains?
The decision between washing and dry cleaning depends on the material. Check the care label first. If it says “dry clean only,” always follow this instruction.
If you have natural fabrics like silk, wool, and velvet, they require professional dry cleaning. Cotton, polyester, and synthetic blends can be machine-washed but professional cleaning is still recommended for lined or pleated curtains. When in doubt, professional dry cleaning is the safest option.

Can I wash my curtains in the washing machine?
Some curtains can be machine-washed, but this depends entirely on the fabric type and construction. Always check the care label first. If machine washing is permitted, use a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent.
Remove hooks, weights, and other hardware before washing and never overcrowd your washing machine. For sheer or delicate curtains, consider using a mesh laundry bag for protection. Remember that improper machine washing can lead to shrinkage, colour fading or fabric damage.
Can I use a dryer machine after cleaning my curtains?
Using a dryer is generally not recommended for curtains, even for machine-washable varieties. The high heat can cause shrinkage, fabric damage, and may set in wrinkles that are difficult to remove.
Instead, hang curtains immediately after washing while they’re still damp. This allows gravity to naturally remove wrinkles as they dry. If your curtains are particularly wrinkled after washing, you can use a steamer once they’re completely dry, keeping the steamer at least 15 cm away from the fabric.
